How Lermontov was drawing the image of a true poet

One of the main motives of creativity of Mikhail Lermontov was the theme of the poet and his poetry. In his works, the poet thinks about his mission and the importance of poetry to society as a whole.

For Mikhail a true poet - an honest man, a prophet, condemning any human vices. His poetry, he must awaken the best in human souls, to let light into their hearts and minds, to make people think over their lives, actions, good and evil. Lermontov even compares poet with a dagger in his poem "the Poet". A true poet needs to be as sharp, uncompromising, unbending, hard soul. In the work of the same poet, as the dagger has lost its purpose, preferring the gold of unselfish spiritual life and feelings.

Creating works, the poet should try to put special meaning in your lines, do not write only poetry, after all, literature is a powerful means to influence public opinion. The poet leads and listen to him. But Mikhail warns that the life of a true prophet can be severe. And in "the Poet" Lermontov draws a prophet, which is in conflict with society. So he's lonely. Denouncing other people's vices, the poet can meet with misunderstanding, condemnation, it can not be passed on crowd. But despite all the difficulties, the poet should not reject his principles, to change the destiny of the prophet.

A true poet — a man with strong soul, unafraid of judgment and exile from society.
