Leo Tolstoy's philosophy in the story "After the Ball"

Lev Nikolaevich created many works. Each of them reflects the author's thoughts. Tolstoy was a real philosopher. There is even such a thing as "tolstoyism", which determines the way of life and thinking. There are many points in it, among which I will highlight the sense of justice and love for people. That is exactly what is important in a person, as the author wrote about.

On the example of the story "After the ball" we can see a lot of nuances. They are relevant. For example, Ivan Vasilyevich, who told the story to the narrator, first rated Varya's father highly. The man thought that the colonel was beautiful not only in appearance, but also in soul. For a Russian person, the soul plays an important role, so we often evaluate others by their actions. This is a national feature.

However, the author, having a developed philosophy, guides readers through the pages of the story. And now Ivan Vasilyevich is watching a terrible picture. After the ball, the colonel ordered the soldier to be beaten. The handsome man became a monster. Ivan Vasilyevich couldn't get over it. He was very scared and upset about the soldier. Humanity and mercy are what people should have. This philosophy was followed by Leo Tolstoy himself, so he showed some of his features in the image of Ivan Vasilyevich. He was shocked by the colonel's action.

I will also note another important point. It consists in the fact that you can not be a two-faced person. It's even scarier than being just a bad person. However, everything is conditional. There are a lot of nuances that need to be understood.

Varya is not to blame for having such a father. However, the hero still had a bad feeling. It can also be understood. Smiling at people, being a gallant person, and then doing something bad is something that is shameful and disgusting. It is important to remain an honest person who behaves equally and with dignity with everyone, to show mercy, and to use punishment in extreme cases and such that they correspond to the offense. I think that Leo Tolstoy, in his story by contrast, showed readers how important it is to be honest, not to create false ideas about yourself. The philosophy is simple: live honestly, help people, and don't rush to hurt them.
