Mikhail Sholokhov "The Fate of a Man"
The story tells about the life of a soldier of the Great Patriotic War Andrei Sokolov. The war took his family, home, trampled on his soul. But his will to live is strong, he understands that he must live on. A new test, prepared by fate, is the homeless boy Vanya, who has filled Andrey's life with new meaning.
Going to the front, Andrei left his wife Irina, son, daughters, hoping to see each other after the war. This was not destined to happen. In 1942, the Germans blew up the house and the family died. Only his son Anatoly went to the front, fought.
While delivering ammunition to a hot spot, Andrey's truck gets bombed, and he is wounded and taken prisoner. Exhausting for two years, he, along with other prisoners of war, works in the quarries, developing an escape plan. In 44, he manages to escape by car. Having reached his fellow soldiers, he gives them trophies and valuable information, and sends a letter home.
The answer from home is written not by the wife, but by the neighbor. Bad news: his wife and daughters were killed, the son is at war. Andrey is stunned, but the news of his son gives him hope for a welcome meeting after the war, a quiet and peaceful life with his grandchildren. On May 9, 1945, a well-aimed sniper shot ended the life of Anatoly's son. Victory Day! Sokolov buries his son in a foreign land, on German soil. Sokolov had no one left. The son did not live to see the Victory, the war took him away from his father. There is no joy or sense in living. Only an unbroken will lives by some miracle.
Having looked at his native house, bombed in Voronezh, Andrey decided to stay with friends on the outskirts of the city and got a job. And every time, returning from a flight, relaxing in a cafe by the road, he saw a boy in rags as a street child. Vanka turned out to be a smart boy of six years old, who became attached to Andrey from the first minutes, went on flights with him, not wanting to stay at home. Sokolov had a meaning in life: to raise and raise his son, to create conditions for a decent life.
The difficult years of the war, the loss of his family, and betrayal did not break Sokolov. The meeting with Vanya inspired his will and instilled hope for a better life, a goal appeared.
