The image of Chichikov in the work of N.V. Gogol's "Dead Souls"

The author of the work "Dead Souls" does not immediately reveal to the readers the essence of the hero. Chichikov is clearly different from other characters. Gogol emphasizes its ambiguity and highlights certain character traits. In Chichikov, the characteristics of landowners and officials coexist, and this gives him a strong-willed character.

Chichikov has been accustomed to this behavior since childhood. His father gave the boy a command to save money and always please his superiors. Chichikov always adhered to this covenant, even as an adult. His actions are aimed at enrichment and no matter what the cost. He wants to live for his own pleasure. Even if his affairs were burned out, he was not disappointed, but started a new business. Such a purposeful person is rare. This is what distinguishes Chichikov from other characters.

The main character knows how to find an approach to everyone. It is relatively easy to deceive him and he knows how to find the right path for each "seller". In Manilov he is friendly and polite, in Korobochka he is rude and a little rude. Chichikov is able to copy gestures, language and behavior of interlocutors and partners. He does this on purpose, while remaining with his beliefs. His actions and words are prudent, thought out and have a certain meaning.

At first glance, Pavel Ivanovich seems not so bad, but even an intelligent person. However, behind the decent mask of the protagonist, there is the character of a cunning, indifferent person who knows how to squeeze the maximum pleasure out of it. Nikolai Vasilievich pushes the reader to the idea that Chichikov's decency does not correspond to reality. The hero carefully hides his true character. In Chichikovo, the author showed the image of officials, and many will agree with him. Indeed, in modern Russia there are such Chichikovs.
