In short, the main character arrives at Famusov's house to see Sofia after a long separation, who has fallen in love with another person — Molchalin. The appearance of two love triangles in the work, connected with the images of Chatsky, Sophia, Molchalin and Lisa, helps to emphasize the entire comical situation. The love story serves to reveal the main conflict associated with the confrontation of the old and new generation. For Famusov's society, nothing but external beauty makes sense: Molchalin uses Sophia to achieve his goals, and Chatsky's feelings are very pure and open, which again emphasizes his high morality.
