The main reason for the disharmony between the individual and society is, in my opinion, the desire of society to subjugate the individual, to instill in it its ideals. The literary work of A.N. Ostrovsky's "Thunderstorm". It clearly shows Katerina's opposition to the society in which she lives. After marriage, she ends up in a family where Kabanova runs. Such a life becomes unbearable, but in the city of Kalinovo the overwhelming majority of women live this way. Once Katerina cheated on her husband and could not hide it. After that, life in the town became impossible, it turned into an incessant series of insults and humiliations. In addition, her own conscience caused Katherine no less suffering. Under the influence of public condemnation and her own conscience, Katerina throws herself off the cliff into the river.In the 19th century, this was almost the only way to express protest to society. There was also a second way - to go to a monastery until the end of his days.


 Another example can be cited from the classical Russian literature of the 19th century. In the comedy "Woe from Wit" A.S. Griboyedov shows a Famusian society worshiping the Western world, miserable and ignorant. In Famus society, the mind is something ugly, boring and uninteresting. He is opposed by Chatsky, who condemns the behavior of this society and rejection of its own path of spiritual and social development. Chatsky is alive and mobile, always striving for something new, progressive. Chatsky admires real art, preaches personal freedom, tries to bring new, free and fair norms of morality to the Famusian world, but this world does not accept changes. This is the usual conflict between the progressive personality and the conservative crowd.


 All great literature, in my opinion, is built on the conflict between the individual and society, and if a person resists to the end, defending his ideals, then he will certainly win, and in the end achieves the recognition of society. Unfortunately, recognition and understanding comes to society too late, and very often only after the death of the individual.
