An indelible impression was made on me by Fyodor Dostoevsky's novel "Crime and punishment". In it, the talented writer maximized his facets of a philosopher and psychologist. Dostoevsky translates his own thoughts and arguments through the main character - Raskolnikov.
Anger from the powerlessness to overcome their poverty pushes the young man to commit a crime. He's killing an old lady who's an interest earner. As if for the sake of easy money. In fact, in this act, he found an outlet for his anger and resentment. And as an excuse to himself, he invents the theory that in this way he is taking revenge for all the dispossessed. Especially for Sonechka Marmeladova.
Continuing to dig into himself Raskolnikov begins to degrade physically and mentally. With his own thoughts, he literally destroys his brain. Rodion is constantly searching for the line between good and evil. The main question that haunts him is: is it possible to forge happiness or at least contentment by an evil act? There comes a time when he is no longer able to independently understand himself and the true, root causes of his action.
In the climax of the work: a confession to Sonya. In it Raskolnikov smashes to splinters all his arguments and accepts that he is just a villain and a nonentity who, having killed an unfortunate old woman, simply killed himself.
With his novel, Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky, who completely rejects violence, contrasted himself with the hotheads of that time, the revolutionaries, who fiercely called "Russia to the axe."
Perhaps this juxtaposition can be considered the main purpose of the work. Dostoevsky tried with all his might to show that good is not created by evil.
