Symbol of the garden in A. p. Chekhov's play " the Cherry orchard»
The famous play "the Cherry orchard" was written by Anton Pavlovich Chekhov in 1903. This work is rightfully considered a classic of Russian literature. The author begins the story in the spirit of Comedy, but the end of the play is covered with a sad mood. Is the name "Cherry orchard" symbolic? Of course, after all, Chekhov's cherry orchard is not just a place where trees grow, it is an image that unites the destinies of the characters.

Through the attitude to the garden, the feelings and aspirations of the characters are transmitted. Once it was young and blooming, but now the trees are no longer so. The garden is falling into disrepair. This is a peculiar symbol of the decline that was coming at that time for the noble class. The work presents people of three eras: the past, present and future.

By the middle of the play, there is an increase in sad moods, because the main character Ranevskaya needs to sell her favorite place, her estate. And she understands that the new owners will certainly cut down these trees. Ranevskaya represents the past. She can not accept the upcoming changes, she would like to leave everything as it is.

The personification of the present is Lopakhin, who not only wants changes, but also does everything to make them happen. The future is represented by the image of Ani Ranevskaya-the daughter of the owner of the estate. However, the future looks uncertain, as does the fate of a girl who does not yet know what she would like to do in life.

The cherry orchard is both a place of action, where intrigues are woven, and an object around which disputes flare up. At the same time, it is a link between representatives of different generations.

The symbolism of the cherry orchard is also shown in accordance with the time of events. The play begins in spring. The trees are blooming and fragrant, which makes it all the more poignant and saddening to think that soon all this must perish. The play ends in autumn, when the" dying " of nature is perceived as something inevitable.

Almost every dialogue and monologue reveals the characters ' characters and destinies through their relationship to the cherry orchard. Some of the actors are directly connected with it, such as Ranevskaya, who spent many years here. But for someone, such as Petya Trofimov, these cherries do not arouse any interest. But the attitude of each of the characters to the cherry orchard as well as possible shows which of the epochs they are closer to.

Chekhov's cherry orchard is also the personification of Russia. At that time, the spirit of necessary changes was already felt in the country, but it was still unknown what these changes would be, and how they would affect the lives of individuals, entire classes, and the fate of Russia. Maxim Gorky after reading Chekhov's work noted that he felt an inexplicable rush of longing. Thus, we can say that the cherry orchard in the play of the same name is a symbol of the change of epochs.
