B. Vasiliev "And the dawns here are quiet ..."
Spring of 1942. There is a war with Germany. In rural Russian areas, the railway siding is commanded by the military Fedot Evgrafych, always dissatisfied with the soldiers entrusted to him, who now and then violate military discipline. Fedot constantly scribbles denunciations of the soldiers, complaining about their disobedience to the military oath. And now he, the thirty-two-year-old chief, who has not finished even four classes, is sent a new replenishment under his command: girls anti-aircraft gunners, one of whom has a son, Albert.
The girls make fun of the commander, and Fedot does not know how to behave with them, how to address them, he was at a loss. But the war puts everything in its place. She interrupted the girls' studies, and their work, deprived people close to them, decided that their place was at the front. Only son Albert survived.
Near the Sinyukhina ridge, the team noticed two Germans, and decided to take them prisoner. Portraying woodcutters, the girls decided to lure the Germans, but they hid in the forest. And only appear the next morning. And it turns out that there are not two Germans, but sixteen. Fedot decided to send the maiden for help, but she, stuck in a swamp, drowns. Several Germans managed to be destroyed, but four hid in a forest hut. Having lost all five girls in an unequal battle, Fedot, wounded in the arm, takes four Germans prisoner and leads them to the unit.
Barely moving, exhausted from injury, Fedot leads the fascists. And, seeing from afar Soviet soldiers running towards him, he falls, losing consciousness, handing over the prisoners to them.
The fascists did not believe Fedot that only five girls participated in the hostilities, which died, that the soldier took them prisoner all alone and forced them to tie each other up.
Many years later, standing at the foot of the grave of the dead young anti-aircraft gunners, stocky and gray-haired, one-armed Fedot, together with the scout captain Albert Fedotych, are laying a marble slab. Many years have passed since then, but the memory is eternal. Nobody is forgotten, nothing is forgotten!
