Revealing realism through fiction in the novel "the Master and Margarita" by Mikhail Bulgakov

Literary critics note that in the novel" the Master and Margarita " there are 3 layers: the ancient world of Yershalaim, modern Moscow and the fantastic element. Each of these time-style worlds deserves careful consideration, but the work focuses on realism. The choice is not accidental, because the novel is imbued with satire and irony. Even a fantastic element allows you to reveal the reality of Moscow in the 20s and 30s of the XX century.

The famous scene in the Variety show demonstrates the greed of every resident who only wants money. For their sake, people are ready to do a lot, and Mr. Woland (here is the element of fiction) acts as a judge, exposing the vices of society. But the satire does not end there. Woland and his retinue go through all the people to show them the vices. Bulgakov draws the main idea of the whole novel through the impure force: the reckoning awaits every person for their sins.

Recall the scene in which the Hippo cat sends one greedy and typical Muscovite, who was chasing an inheritance, to another city? It is indicative: the times are changing, but the insides of people remains as rotten as before.

Why, then, does Marguerite receive favours from Woland? She is better than the others, because she is honest. Of course, Marguerite becomes part of Voland's entourage, but the Lord of darkness does not punish her like other Muscovites. Woland was fair, which was unusual in the literature for such an image to be interpreted.

It turns out that the unambiguous evil in the novel is represented not by Woland and his assistants, but by people. Greed, envy and betrayal are the most terrible vices demonstrated in the work. "The master and Margarita" is a satire in the first place, and already in the second – a fantastic work.
