The problem of truth and falsehood in the play M. Gorky "the lower depths"

Almost every one of the heroes of the works of Gorky has their own idea about the truth.

A former Studio owner Bubnov believes that people should always speak ("fell") but the truth, no matter how hard it was for others. The hero rejects the lie in all its manifestations. Every utterance of man should be an indisputable fact, without any concealment or embellishment.

Luke is the only one of the characters in the play who believes that the truth does not need man. The truth can kill a man, both literally and figuratively. False is the hope for which man and worth living. Actor Luke tells about a special hospital where they treat poisoned alcohol organisms, though not said, where exactly is this hospital. Dying Anna, Luke tells about all the delights of the afterlife that allows the heroine not to fear death and suffering. Luke truth (or rather falsehood) is compassion and mercy, in respect of any person, even the most insignificant. That is why the hero tries to instill hope for a better almost every inhabitant of the so-called "bottom". The philosophy of Luke is this: "She's really something, is not always a disease man... not always true soul will be cured"

With the view of Luke do not agree Satine, who believes the false religion of slaves and masters. However, according to Satin, is the God of "free man". A person should not just pity, but respect. However, Satin does not condemn Luke, saying that the man just loves people, just pity them, save those who but hope in life nothing remains. Sateen philosophy is: "we Must respect the man! To spare... not to humiliate him too bad. it is necessary to respect!"
