The role of the doctor in history and literature
The doctor is one of the most ancient professions. Since ancient times, they have always respected those who could help calm pain and called them healers.

A special place in Russian literature is occupied by the image of the doctor. A. p. Chekhov in his stories deeply reveals this topic, which makes an indelible impression on the writer. Take, for example, his story "Ionych". A young man comes to a provincial town with the most noble aspirations. At first, he approached the job with full responsibility. However, over time, the thirst for money begins to destroy his human qualities. The desire to help people is forgotten, and even the duty of a doctor is forgotten. Dr. Startsev's goal is money.

There is another story, "Hopalong", in which we see a completely different picture. For the hero of the story – Dr. Dymov, not only science is important, but also a noble impulse to save everyone. He is great as a doctor, but unfortunately dies of infection while saving a sick child. Chekhov himself was a doctor and embodied the image of a selfless person in his story.

Doctors played a huge role during the great Patriotic war. Doctors performed operations under enemy fire, nurses risked themselves to carry the wounded out of the battlefield. Many doctors gave their lives, and those who survived received state awards.

In many works of that time, we can trace the dedication of the Soviet citizen and save under any circumstances. Such an episode can be found in Sholokhov's story "the Fate of man". The driver, Andrey Sokolov, was carrying ammunition to the front line and came under fire. He lost consciousness, and when he came to, he was surrounded by fascists. They took him prisoner and took him with the others to the West. He found himself in a dilapidated Church with a sprained arm. A doctor was captured along with him, who set Andrey's shoulder and helped everyone who was injured. In inhumane conditions, he continued to help prisoners.

The exploits of doctors are described in B. Oleynik's book "Monument in Kabul". Working in Afghanistan, in the most difficult conditions, Soviet medics sometimes gave their lives to save soldiers. In peacetime, they receive letters from former soldiers with words of gratitude.

All the subtleties and complexities of such a profession as a doctor are described in the book "Thoughts and heart"by the surgeon and writer N. M. Amosov. He was able to bring many people back to life, having performed about 4,000 operations during the great Patriotic war.

Of course, doctors do not always feel the joy of victory. Medicine can't save everyone. Sometimes even the most experienced doctor is powerless.

The desire to help people, dedication, generosity – the main qualities that every doctor should have, having carried them through their entire life.
