The Silver Age in Russian Literature

At the end of the 19th century, Russian literature experienced a crisis. However, not everything is as bad as it will be in the 21st century. The period from the end of the 19th to the beginning of the 20th centuries. commonly called the Silver Age.

On the one hand, there are still talents who create masterpieces. On the other hand, there is no protest against the injustice of the level of poets and writers of the 19th century. This is causing a kind of decline. It is this factor that will form the era of decadence, when a lot of attention began to marvel at mysticism.

The individual novels of F. Sologub ("The Little Devil", "Heavy Dreams") are an example of "decadent devilry". However, poetry still showed the level.

When talking about poems, a person must understand three main trends: futurism, acmeism and symbolism. Each of them has its own characteristics. For example, futurism found new forms, therefore it created more innovative ideas than any other direction of the Silver Age: neologisms, innovative forms and rhythms.

Of course, some writers raise doubts about their level of creativity (Khlebnikov, Kruchenykh), but many have found their niche, showing the new possibilities of literature. Let us recall the same V.V. Mayakovsky.

Symbolism and acmeism often opposed themselves to each other, but in fact there was symbolism in acmeism, which always sought to move away from ambiguity.

If we consider the work of N. Gumilyov, who created the school of acmeism, then, in fact, many of the works written by him bear high-level symbols. As you can see, the Silver Age is an eclecticism of genres and trends, although literature has clearly defined the directions.
