In the 20th century, there were many good but few outstanding writers. Among the diversity of masters and ordinary people of the pen, A.P. Platonov. When you read his works, you understand the bitter irony with which every line is filled. And it helps to see the true things.
However, the reader sees a socialist society through the eyes of Voshchev, the hero of the story, who cannot be "inscribed" in the realities of that time. The dismissal with a silly wording, of course, saddened this man, but he went around the city to think about everything that had happened to him recently.
He was romantic, but terrified by social events. And who wouldn't be scared when there are communists around? Voshchev dreamed of happiness, so he constantly thought about it. Many were like the main character of the story, but people tried to drive away such thoughts, because they were afraid to become enemies of the people.
Voshchev is a superfluous person, because in a socialist-minded state such people could hardly find their place. It was a terrible picture. It turns out that Voshchev could choose 2 ways: to become like everyone else, or to perish.
The world is changing, but concepts cannot be changed. Good always remains. Only the form changes. Voshchev did not have the strength to fight, because he, like many others, was afraid of change. However, in my soul there was a feeling that it is simply impossible for a living person who has his own views and emotional experiences to live as it was in the first five-year plan. Romance was left to be an unwitting witness to the events taking place in the country.
