In the novel "Scarlet sails", we see the two main characters. It's grey and Assol. They don't just live in different areas, but environment and upbringing are different. Assol - the daughter of a commoner, the former seaman Longren. Grey was born in a rich aristocratic family. But despite the difference in origin, brings their faith in the dream.

The life gonna from the earliest years were not easy. She did not know the affection and care a mother, as her mother died when she was a few months. All the worries about the baby took on the father. He tried to give Assol all the kindness. Before Longren did for a living that served as a sailor. But after his wife's death, he was forced to leave this job. To feed his daughter and himself, he decided to make for sale wooden toys: boats, frigates, sailboats. Assol family was poor, but not miserable girl. More she was worried that people avoid contact with them. It so happened that the villagers blamed for the deaths of Longren innkeeper Menners and tried not to communicate with the former sailor and his girl. The kids teased Assol and didn't want to play with her. Gradually, kind, sincere girl got used to it and no longer began to make attempts.

Abuse of residents caperna not embittered girl, and she still lived with an open mind. She loved to dream and find joy in the little things. One day on her way met a collector of fairy tales Aigle. He told her that someday when she grows up, her Prince charming sail on a magnificent ship with scarlet sails. He marries her and take with me. Actually Aigle invented it, but gonna believe in this story and waited for this wonderful day. She whole-heartedly believed that her dream will come true, and that hope helped her to live. The girl did not care that the villagers laugh at her and even considered abnormal.

Arthur gray was growing in completely different conditions. His parents were wealthy people, and he in no way needed. Mom was ready to fulfill his every desire. Sometimes wealth makes people arrogant, indifferent. But with Arthur this did not happen. He grew up a kind, sympathetic man. However, people from his entourage, he was singled out particular reverie. Once he saw the house picture, which depicted a ship sailing on the waves, and the captain standing on the deck. This painting seemed to have become part of his inner world. Since then, he began to dream of becoming a brave sailor. When gray was fourteen years old, he ran away from home. Despite his noble origin, he became a mere cabin boy on the ship, if only his dream of cruising a reality. Day after day he performed his duties responsibly, earning the respect of the team and the captain of the ship.

Gray learned a lot, gained rich experience, and then decided to buy his own ship. They became three-masted galliot, named "Secret". So Arthur was able to their own efforts to make his dream come true. Later, he also helped to translate into reality the dream of Assol.

During one of my trips fate brought Arthur to Caperna. Walking among the trees on the coast, he saw a beautiful girl. It was Assol. It is at that moment asleep and not seen the gray, and he admired her. The stranger did not come from the head of a young man, and he tried to learn about it from local residents. His questions were a bit surprised with them, but they told him about the girl was considered almost crazy for her extraordinary dreams.

Lover grey inspired dream girl, and he put a lot of effort to keep it that way, like in a fairy tale, which he believed Assol. He bought a lot of silk for the sails at the local shop. And liked need, in his opinion, tint, to color was indeed red. His naval command, he ordered to equip the new galiot sails. On Board he invited musicians who knew how to play not just good, but profound.
