Roland is a heroic and Patriotic ideal of the French people
The basis of this work are real, but artistically reinterpreted and embellished historical events. In one of the Chronicles of Einhard it was stated that in the year 778 the Frankish king, Karl, really made a first attempt the liberation of Spain from the Moors. The Governor even managed to capture a few cities, but in the battle in the city of Zaragoza the forces were not equal and had to retreat. During the retreat the army was ambushed and there during the battle, killed the Earl of Hruodland, later known as Roland.
The "song of Roland" is the greatest poem created by the people of medieval France. In the image of Roland, the French brought their ideas of a real warrior-hero. Told him how to be a knight: brave, fearless, courageous. This man under any circumstances will not betray the king. This man to death will do his duty, and in the other world will depart heroically. And Roland, dying, he thought only about his brother and about the accomplishment. Roland is the ideal knight, such are the qualities of a true warrior, which is inherent in the Roland.
The man bold in battle with any enemy, he is always ready to defend, because it is the main task of a knight. But once he overreached and went into an unequal battle. He fought bravely to the very end, but could not defeat the enemy, and fell. Despite the excruciating pain, the knight bravely and fearlessly accepted death.
Thanks to this work we learn about the ideals of the French people, on the lives of ordinary people, but also about the brave knight Roland, who to the end fulfilled the duty.
