The Great Patriotic War and the topic of morality (grades 7-9)
The theme of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 is considered from different angles and by different authors.

This is the heroism of women, the brave labor of the rear personnel, the uninterrupted production of military equipment and, of course, the exploits of men at the front.

I would like to consider this problem through the prism of morality. Can this criterion be used for those who fought on the front lines, for those who defended the borders of our Motherland?

For the analysis I will use the work of the Belarusian writer Vasil Bykov "Anti-aircraft gunner".

The main characters of this work are the battalion commander Kolesnik and his beloved girlfriend Katyusha.

Ironically, the battalion commander and his soldiers were surrounded by the Nazis. His entire battalion was killed, only the two of them survived. But ... there are no scratches or wounds on them, apparently, the Universe has saved.  But this time his close friend Yekaterina was with him, "only he was lucky with this sweet naive Bashmakova ... Only he brought her out."

However, for Kolesnik, this is already the third environment from which he will emerge. After the first two times, he was awaited by a strict analysis of what had happened, as well as a thorough investigation of the circumstances: weren't the Germans recruiting him?

And now "... the last spurt, and they are among their own. But what after?", - the battalion commander rushes through the head.

He remembered how they wanted to hand him over to the tribunal after leaving the second encirclement, when he had just escaped.  Again, not a scratch on them. Then he decides to have his beloved shoot him with a machine gun, asks her to hit him in the hand.  But the girl for some reason takes him for a traitor, and when the man asks to shoot, she shoots without trembling in her hands. But the machine gun fire is directed by it into the chest of the father of his future son ...

fire was Katya the Anti-aircraft gunner killed her lover, and "... was no longer interested in who she shot."

This is how Vasil Bykov touched upon morality: honor, conscience, dignity, heroism, loyalty to his duty.

And the writer believes that only morally perfect people will make the right choice between a heroic death and the life of a coward and a traitor.
