Dounia is a young and very beautiful daughter of the station master Samson Varina. She is hardworking and always friendly to all the guests. Its all love for sweet nature and dazzling appearance, everyone likes it. The father, the caretaker of the station, adores his daughter. Because Dunya is his only consolation in life. Like a light in the window! Dunya knows this and loves his father.
Why is it so happened that the girl was allowed to take the young officer to Minsk? Dunya grew up, tutored by his father, in an atmosphere of love. Perhaps she was not prepared for the fact that it can take a fraud. And so the village, nothing wrong with not knowing the coach to Minsk to "spend" it.
On the other hand, Dunya could consciously go for such an adventure. She knew that by nature she is of the lower class, only daughter of the station master. What awaited her in life, she stay at the station with his father? Why is Dunya not let them know father that she's fine? For sure, she guessed that her father is very concerned about its future destiny. May Dunya be ashamed. I am ashamed to admit my father and beg his forgiveness for leaving him alone. I was ashamed for disgracing the father before the people leave with a completely unfamiliar young man. And, maybe, she was afraid of Minsk. It is already known, how it can be cruel with disagreeable people. Maybe she was afraid to incur his wrath, and to fall out of favor. Because Dunya is fully depended on Minsk and knew it.
Why Dunya came to his father after so many years. She was hoping to see you and apologize personally, to show him his grandchildren. Perhaps, in the life of Dunya, something changed. Maybe she finally plucked up the courage to ask forgiveness from father. Maybe Minsk did not, and there was no one to forbid her from seeing her father. Knowing that her own person is no longer alive, she realized that her escape was the cause of his death. So Dunya was crying at the grave of his father, she had no time to apologize to him for what his act ruined it and made to suffer.
