Mikhail Zoshchenko's Peru has many interesting stories filled with humor and irony. The author's goal is not to tarnish society. He simply exposes situations that prevent people from living with dignity.
An example of a story that is filled with both humor and bitter irony is The Case History. In it, Mikhail Mikhailovich shows a situation in which the hero of the work ends up in a hospital, where he sees the attitude of the staff towards people.
Funny and at the same time scary is the picture that opened up in front of a person who was hospitalized. He sees an old woman in the bathroom who has a very high temperature.
She just lay in the bathroom, and no one paid attention to her. The hero was struck by that situation, because no one particularly approached the old woman. And the hero was asked to go to the bath after this woman.
Zoshchenko did not invent anything in the sense of how people were treated in Soviet hospitals. He painted real pictures. With the help of humor, the writer exposed the vices of people. This was done expertly.
There is no fierce condemnation in The Story of the Illness, but through the situations, readers understand the events that are taking place. And this is the strong side of Zoshchenko's talent, who knows how to portray Soviet reality without instruction.
Today, Zoshchenko's works are relevant, because much in the minds and hearts of people does not change. "Case history" shows that it is better not to get sick, otherwise you may face similar situations that the main character faced face to face. The story is written in a light syllable, which increases the feeling of the burden of this reality.
