Pushkin did not set himself the task of giving an unambiguous interpretation of the image of Emelyan Pugachev. The priorities of the writer were the task of depicting a multifaceted life. It is impossible to unequivocally call Emelyan Pugachev a criminal, because he led the people to freedom. Sometimes the question arises as to who is the real criminal: Emelyan or Catherine?
