History of the great Patriotic war in the life of my family

Each of us has someone who participated in the great Patriotic war. Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, and even the whole of Europe is covered in the blood of Soviet soldiers. Steles and granite obelisks guard the rest of the fallen.

My great-grandparents were lucky. They survived at that time and returned home to their relatives safe and practically unharmed, but what they had to endure... My great-grandfather was born and raised in the Novgorod region. During the course of the war, he marched from his native home all the way to Berlin.

On June 22, 1941, he was at home with his large and close-knit family, heard the music begin to play, did not have time to be surprised by this circumstance, a voice from the loudspeaker announced the treacherous attack of Nazi Germany on the USSR. His wife Ulyana began to cry, because she knew that war was an unknown event, since Philip (my great-grandfather) had previously participated in the Finnish campaign. There were still smaller children in my arms...

How to count who got more: men or women? Those who were at the front, or those who remained in the rear, working "for the front"? Everyone got it: the old, the women, the children, and, of course, the men, each with his own front... During the war, both Philip and Ulyana lost many friends, who were often remembered later. And they were reluctant to share information about themselves and their wartime memories.

Maybe they didn't want to admit that they were scared. Maybe they didn't want to remember the hardships of the home front or the military routine, or what it was like to raise babies alone.

According to my parents ' stories, my great-grandfather always noted how bravely the soldiers fought to protect their Homeland. And when he talked about it, there were tears in his eyes. The tears of a man who personally participated in battles and was awarded orders and medals for his courage and bravery.
