"The Captain's Daughter" is a work of the great writer A.S. Pushkin about the peasant uprising of 1773-1774.

Emelyan Pugachev is one of the main personalities in the story. It was he who led the peasant uprising. History describes him as an extremely cruel man who robbed and killed. But, despite this, the peasants followed him. Ordinary people trusted his words. Contemporaries describe him as a reasonable, intelligent and calculating man.
But in the work "The Captain's Daughter", the author recreated the personification in his person of two other main characters, Grinev and Shvabrin. And in the end, we got an extremely controversial personality, but bright and entertaining. Thanks to the graceful work of the greatest writer, his persona has turned out to be a subtly thought out character in the story. A.S. Pushkin managed to portray one of the central characters with a rich personality. The writer in the image of Pugachev tried to portray a Russian person with a huge soul. Alexander Sergeevich loved to some extent this character, perhaps even admired him. But he did not understand the cruelty of the rebellion and the path he had chosen to go against the system.
He even captures the plot in stages: at first he is quiet and mysterious, almost inconspicuous, but his eyes betray an extraordinary person in him, and already in Grinev's dream he appears as a clever and cunning person.
The main qualities of the leader of the uprising are categorical and cruelty. Without shuddering, he issues orders to execute the defenders of the fortress. He is merciless to those who refused to take him for a king. Even women, children, and the elderly knew his fury. Perhaps even the reader shuddered at such cruelty. But as indicated at the beginning, he is a rather controversial person.
In addition to cruelty and categoricalness, he also has trust, especially in loyal and sincere people. He appreciates his associates. This can be seen in relation to Grinev. Even after his deception, Pugachev lets him go with his bride. He is not deprived of such qualities as justice, honesty and generosity.
Pugachev has the ability to understand people, owns the art of recognizing feelings, which gives him the advantage of playing in public. But with the right people, he is truthful, open and sincere. He knows how to give thanks for kindness, helping those who helped him.
The uniqueness of the image of Yemelyan Pugachev in the story "The Captain's Daughter" - the author describes him not only as the leader of the peasant movement, but also as a person. At the same time, his figure is shrouded in the smoke of darkness and secrets.
