What is the tragedy of the main character of Goethe's tragedy "Faust"?
An essay based on the work of Goethe "Faust", on the theme "What is the tragedy of the main character of the tragedy", 9th grade

The work "Faust" continued throughout the life of the writer Johann Goethe. It absorbed the entire structure of society at that time. The work is in fact the history of the warlock Faust who actually lived in the 16th century. Many writers, poets and composers took his image as the basis of their works. And only Goethe managed to endow him with feelings and thoughts, put a constant striving for truth at the head of his existence. Legends endow Doctor Faust with very dark features. Allegedly, he is an apostate, is actively involved in magic and even tries to resurrect dead people. Johann Goethe became the first of the authors who managed to endow his character with the features of a truly great scientist. A scientist who is constantly looking for answers to the eternal questions of human existence. And his greatness is based on the eternal thirst to learn the truth and on loyalty to the cause he has chosen.

The author of "Faust" endows the main character of the work with the desire to know the meaning of human existence. The structure of the world, power, love, wealth - these are just a few of the topics raised by Goethe in his work. The main character's thirst to know the emotional, intellectual and physical essence necessarily leads him to the death of his own soul. After all, he should not go in the direction of fulfilling his desires.

The writer considers the genre of his work to be an unconditional tragedy, and the main character is undoubtedly a tragic hero. At the same time, Goethe demonstrates how weak a person can be in his desire to idealize the world around him. And he is not able to fulfill the agreement with Mephistopheles and not want anything. Seeing an ideal world, Faust expresses his desire to stop a wonderful moment. “Stop a moment - you are beautiful” - these words contain the main weakness of the hero, the impossibility of his resistance to anything ideal.
